Roundtable organized in Kukes, Albania, on the International Peace Day, 21st December 2009

This roundtable was organized in Kukes, a city based in the north of Albania, a highly affected region near the frontier with Kosovo. Its objective was to raise awareness about the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM), as well as about the results of the report Voices from the Ground reflecting the voices of the victims in Albania.
The panel for this roundtable was composed of four speakers: Mr. Jonuz Kola, Executive Director of ALB-AID, Mr. Ilir Shkalla, Project Manager in ALB-AID, as well as Ms. Ardiana Mania and Mr. Izet Ademaj, two cluster munition survivors representing the voices of the victims. Mr. Jonuz Kola presented firstly the report Voices from the Ground. Mr. Ilir Shkalla presented the CCM. Ms Ardiana Mani spoke about her engagement on the Oslo Process as a Ban Advocate.
At the end of the presentations, an open discussion took place between the participants who represented government institutions and survivors. Journalists also asked many questions concerning the future plans for assisting the survivors and how the provisions of the CCM will be concretely implemented in Albania.
The entire event was covered by the national television channel of Kukes and a special report with live coverage of 15 minutes was shown on a regional television channel. This event was also reported for three days in the news of the TV-Kukes. The regional newspaper ““Jemi edhe ne” published an article on the event, and it was also reported on Radio Kukesi.
